The Viertel Charitable Foundation Senior Medical Research Fellowships

The Viertel Charitable Foundation’s Senior Medical Research Fellowships (SMRF’s) are a five year initiative valued at $250,000 per annum and given for outstanding researchers who are medically qualified, or graduates of another scientific discipline, with recognised postdoctoral achievements seeking to establish a research career in Australia (not necessarily currently working in Australia). Clinical Investigator Awards Establishment grants of $85,000 will be awarded to clinical investigators medical graduates or graduates of another scientific discipline, who have completed both their clinical and research training and are commencing their first substantive appointment (appointment of 5 years or more) clinical position or have been in such a position for no more than 24 months on 30 April (people who currently hold nationally competitive (eg NHMRC) fellowships of 0.5 or greater are ineligible) .

The 2020 Diabetes Australia Research Program Grant Round

Diabetes Australia is the national body for people affected by all types of diabetes. This year the Diabetes Australia Research Program should provide over $3.6 million to vital diabetes research projects across Australia. Applications for the 2019 Grant Round are now open and projects across all areas of diabetes research will be considered. Projects focused on self-monitoring & self-management of diabetes, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and diabetes, and behavioural research are encouraged. Grants may be awarded in the following categories; Two $150,000 Millennium Awards (one for type 1 diabetes and one for type 2 diabetes); and an unspecified number of General Grants, up to $60,000 per grant.

The Cancer Australia Priority-driven Collaborative Cancer Research Scheme (PdCCRS) 

Funding for 2020 is now open. This year, Cancer Australia and its Funding Partners have developed research priorities for ‘General Cancer’ and for ‘Childhood Cancers of Low Survival’.  All applications to this scheme must include consumer involvement. Applicants must submit a grant application to NHMRC through RGMS in addition to submission of a completed PdCCRS Questions form to Cancer Australia.

Cancer Institute NSW Fellowships

The Cancer Institute NSW Fellowships are now open for applications in the following categories: Early Career Fellowships (<5 years post-doctoral)Career Development Fellowships (5-10 years post-doctoral) Both schemes are open to full time researchers and to clinician researchers (minimum 60% research time) The application guidelines are available here. AMP Tomorrow Fund

The AMP Tomorrow Fund is now calling for applications. Once again, it is open to individuals of all ages and abilities – including health and medical researchers. Grants of up to $100,000 can cover a range of activities including training, travel and equipment, living expenses and research. The AMP Tomorrow Fund website’s Tips and tools section includes FAQs and useful resources such as downloadable posters, fact sheets and a sample application. The site also features profiles on past AMP Tomorrow Makers, as well as short videos.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation 2020 Investigator Initiated Research Scheme is now open for applications. 

The NBCF Investigator Initiated Research Scheme will support the salary (if requested) and research costs (or portions thereof) of outstanding investigators with a vision to expand the scale and scope of breast cancer research in Australia. For more information click here.
