A key action in the Research, Science and Innovation Domain Plan [PDF 1.2KB] is to create a National Research Information System for New Zealand (NRIS). The NRIS will link data on researchers, their projects, outputs, funding sources and end-user collaborations.
The NRIS is critical to delivering on the expectations of the National Statement of Science Investment (NSSI) [PDF 1.8MB]. It will provide visibility of the work of the science, research and innovation community and will enhance New Zealand’s quality longitudinal data and statistics.
The long term benefits of this project include:
- getting a better picture of the benefits and outcomes of funding research, science and innovation in New Zealand
- reducing time and cost for responding to information queries
- reducing transaction costs across the system
- developing evidence-based decision making.
In the first phase of the project, data will be captured from the following organisations: MBIE, Callaghan Innovation, the Health Research Council (HRC), the Royal Society of New Zealand, and the Crown Research Institutes (CRIs).
