2011-13 Australian Health Survey
20/07/2010 5:24:24 PM
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), in close consultation with the Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA), is to conduct the 2011–13 Australian Health Survey.
The survey, scheduled to commence in the field in April 2011, will be the most comprehensive study of the health of Australians ever undertaken involving a representative sample of 50,000 Australians. Participants will be asked about any diagnosed health problems they have, the medications and medical services that they use, and new questions about lifestyle factors such as diet and physical activity. For the first time, Australian Health Survey respondents will also be asked to provide voluntary blood and urine samples to allow testing for nutritional status and for early indicators of lifestyle-related disease, such as high cholesterol levels, and high or low blood glucose levels.
The attached fact sheet provides information for key stakeholders.
Further information will be available on the web site www.abs.gov.au/australianhealthsurvey as the survey progresses. Queries can also be directed to DOHA at aushealthsurvey@health.gov.au.
In order to maximise the use of the Australian Health Survey data, the Australian Bureau of Statistics is developing an output strategy for the survey, with an information session to be held at the Department of Health and Ageing for Departmental staff and key AHS stakeholders in the ACT.
