Update from the Australian Health Research Alliance (AHRA) – Health Services Research (HSR) Working Group 1

Since the successful launch of the Health Systems Improvement and Sustainability framework in 2019, the two co-chairs of HSR Working Group 1, Prof Chris Levi and Prof Rachael Morton (HSRAANZ President) have assembled a revitalised team to plan the work of this group. Members include representation from the Australian Research Translation Centres: Sydney Health Partners, Maridulu Budyari Gumul (SPHERE), Monash Partners, Melbourne Academic Partners, Health Translation SA, West Australian Health Translation Network, NSW Regional Health Partners, Brisbane Diamantina Health Partners, and Central Australian Academic Health Science Network.

A recent prioritisation exercise of the 4 HSR recommendations in the framework was undertaken, to ensure maximum impact. Each recommendation was scored 1-5 for the criteria of significance, relevance, appropriateness, feasibility, and value for money. Recommendations were then ranked.

Recommendation 4.5 'Models and methods to increase the use of clinical guidelines and registries to ensure their effective integration for health service delivery' was ranked number one and will be the focus of this group moving forward.

A pragmatic review of models and methods is currently underway.
